Round 2: ABC lose to REG

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Basketball Africa League. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Ivorian ABC at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Rwandan REG 80-73. REG looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Rwandan guard Adonis Filer (195-1993, college: FAU) who scored 25 points and 6 assists. American guard Cleveland Thomas (192-1993, college: WKU, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists. Stephane Konate (191-1980) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. REG are looking forward to face Stade in the next round. ABC will play against US Monastir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Kigali. Local REG beat Senegalese Douanes 69-55. Guard Jean Nshobozwa (193-1998) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. Cleveland Thomas contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American Marcus Crawford replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Douanes. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. REG will play against Stade in the next round. Douanes will play against Kwara Falcons and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 2 Stade defeated Kwara Falcons in a road game 78-74. US Monastir beat Kwara Falcons at home 85-75.

Kwara Falcons - Stade 74-78

There was a minor upset when Nigerian Kwara Falcons were defeated at home by Mali Stade 78-74. Stade dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kwara Falcons' 28. Stade forced 21 Kwara Falcons turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Forward Aliou Diarra (-2001) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks. Souleymane Berthe (-2000, agency: The French Family Consulting) contributed with 20 points for the winners. American forward AJ Wilson (203-1997, college: S.Carolina) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Jeremiah Mordi (194-1993, college: Queens, NY, agency: Green Sports Management) added 8 points and 5 assists in the effort for Kwara Falcons. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Stade will play against REG in Kigali in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
